Bird bath

Besides the bird feeders, we take great pleasure in watching the birds "taking their bath". Here are some pictures I took this past summer of some of our feathered friends. Enjoy!

This was earlier in the summer, as you can see by the flowers.

This is my favorite one!

This guy looks like he has glasses on the top of his head.

Labor Day Weekend

I need to catch up on September's events & their pictures. Here is what Scott & I did Labor Day weekend.

Scott & my Get-Away weekend

While the boys went to youth camp, Scott & I have a get-away weekend. We hadn't done this since all the weddings & since he actually had the weekend off, we went for it. To save money we asked if we could use Scott's mother's place at Deep Creek. She was thrill to have us use it, so we headed down.

We just enjoyed our 1st afternoon there driving around the area.
We h
ad a great time finding new things...

...and enjoying what we knew was there.

The next day we got up early & headed up to Grantsville to get breakfast. Of course we got cinnamon rolls & sticky buns. We came upon this Amish buggy as we were leaving to head on over to Cumberland, MD to catch a train ride.

We had always planned on doing something like this, but never had. We were so excited!

This train ride went from Cumberland to Frostburg & back. It was so neat to ride on a train with an actual steam engine.

The conductor took our tickets & off we went, slowly chugging our way up the mountains.

Since it was a while before we got to our destination, we took a walk through the train to the last car. This was the snack car.

It was so cool to see out the back of the train!

We enjoyed many sights along the way. When we got to Frostburg, we had lunch while they turned the train around.

After lunch we re-boarded the train & headed back to Cumberland.

I think we enjoyed our trip back better. We decided to watch the scenery through the open windows. We could see more & we could watch the engine.

We had great views on our way home. This one is on Rt. 219 just below Keiser's Ridge.

These were around the lake as it was getting dark.
The next day we just drove around the area with a map trying out new places. Since it was Labor Day, you had to pay to get into a lot of them. We found a road that we should have had an off-road vehicle for. The map we had was not too accurate! But for the most part we got to see neat areas.

I love this picture of a farm that grew sunflowers. It was so picturesque.

We finally made our way down to a town by the name of Oakland. It is such a quaint town, I love visiting it. They too had a train station, but just as a museum.

I love their shops.

This shop is on a hill so it looks slanted.

At lunch time, Scott & I climbed down to the river just outside of town & had a picnic along the river.

We headed back into town after lunch. they have such beautiful homes.

This just happens to be a Bed'n'Breakfast - the Oak & Apple Inn.

And this beautiful place is just someone home!

Then we headed back & relaxed for the rest of the evening.
The next day we packed up later in the morning & went home. Bill & Janet Day invited us to their picnic, so we wanted to be sure to get to it. We enjoyed our fellowship with everyone.

Bill's flowers are always so beautiful!

Miss Ava was having a good time checking out all that her grandparents gardens had to offer.

This is the pond right next to the gazebo.
It was a great ending to a wonderful weekend.
