August Gardens

Our Vegetable Garden

Scott has worked so diligently in our vegetable garden.

We have enjoyed fresh lettuce, spinach, corn, cantaloupe, onions, & tomatoes
with watermelon to soon come. We have put up green beans & broccoli so far.

Dan is playing around with our fresh out of the pot corn that we had for dinner.

Our Flower Garden

Our flower garden started out so beautiful in the beginning of the month because of all the rain so we had in June & July, but by the end of August all our plants took a serious hit from the lack of rain during the month. Which goes to show you that you need the latter rain as well as the former rain! We didn't get the amount of corn that we were hoping for & the tomatoes should have been ripening by now. One thing I must say though, is that the farmers were having an awful time getting the haying done until the dry spell in Aug. Anyway, here are some pictures of the flower beds at the beginning of Aug.

Even though our sunflowers are almost done, they produce wonderful seed to watch birds by. The goldfinch love those & will eat them upside down. But they are very skiddish around people. Any movement sets them to flight, so getting a picture of them is very hard.

This baby bird got lost learning how to fly.
It was so cute, but it was chirping for its mama.
Our roses came back in full bloom again.

A bouquet of beautiful garden flowers!

Well, it's not looking to good now that we haven't had rain, but once since we visited you. And it's too expensive to water it much. We have even had a few varieties of trees turning by the end of Aug.!
